Bernabeu boss plans incredible Old Trafford offer.
Several media outlets in Spain are reporting that Real Madrid are set to make a sensational bid to sign Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney.
In a move that would shock football, Real Madrid are thought to have a 10 transfer target list drawn up and will move for them in January and next summer, and it appears that Wayne Rooney is high on the list and a sensational bid could be made for the England forward.
Jose Mourinho is a long term admirer of Rooney and has made his feelings known before about the 25-year-old and is thought to have had preliminary talks with Real Madrid President Florentino Perez after the potential signing of Neymar has faded in recent days and according to Spanish media a bid of €55million is being tabled and could be sent to Manchester United in January.
Well this is quite something. Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has been linked with a number of potential striker signings as he looks to expand on the fairly threadbare options he has up front but this bid is one that comes as something of a surprise, if indeed the Spanish media outlets are to be believed.
At present the La Liga giants have just two recognised out and out strikers in the form of Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema and the Argentine and French internationals tend to share the role as they benefit from excellent support from Cristiano Ronaldo but now it appears that Mourinho wants to line up another ‘marquee’ signing.
Clearly Real Madrid have managed to persuade a number of players to make the move to the Bernabeu from Old Trafford. In recent years David Beckham, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo have all done so and whilst clearly Sir Alex Ferguson would fight tooth and nail to prevent Rooney from doing likewise, the idea that an offer of such magnitude could be made may well tempt the England man into considering bringing an end to his seven and a half year spell at the Premier League title holders.
The fact that last season Rooney at first demanded a move away from the club only to recant the statement soon afterwards may well act as a catalyst for Mourinho’s interest.
