Anfield side ready move for Fiorentina man.
Liverpool are likely to start a bidding war for Fiorentina’s Ricardo Montolivo in January as they are lining up a bid for the 26 year old who is out of contract next summer.
Montolivo has attracted significant interest from several Premier League sides, including the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United as well as interest from clubs across Europe.
Liverpool are keen to make a move for the experienced Italian international in January in a pre-emptive to move to head off a potential free for all in the summer for his signature.

Whilst it’s true that Liverpool brought in midfielders Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson in the summer, Kenny Dalglish also lost Raul Meireles and loaned out Alberto Aquilani and the Scot may still feel that he needs alternative options in this area and the fact that a player as experienced and able as Riccardo Montolivo may be available on the cheap seems a good enough reason for the Merseyside club to take an interest.
The 26 year old is in his seventh season at Fiorentina and appears to want out after seeing the Florence side fall down the Serie A table to an accustomed mid table and the Italian international’s contract issues have alerted a number of prospective suitors and Liverpool may be keen to avoid a bidding war in the summer in preference of making a bid in January.
Montolivo is a box to box midfielder who offers the tenacious tackling of a defensive midfielder with the added bonus of being able to link midfield and attack and also has the ability to spray long probing passes and score crucial goals, in this manner he is in many ways a type of ‘Italian Xabi Alonso’ and could well be the ideal foil for the more one dimensional (but effective) Lucas.
The Viola may be willing to accept offers of around £5-6m to avoid losing a player of Montolivo’s quality for nothing next summer.
The former Atalanta man has notched up over 300 top tier appearances as well as 30 national team caps.
