Emirates Stadium boss keen on talented winger.
Arsenal are said to be scouting FC Basel youngster Xherdan Shaqiri ahead of a summer bid for the Swiss international. Arsene Wenger has sent had Emirates Stadium representatives to monitor the 20 year old winger this season and the Frenchman has been impressed by the glowing reports and will look to bid for the Albanian born starlet in the summer.
Shaqiri was instrumental in Basel’s back to back Swiss title successes and has shown his growing maturity in Champions League action this term and is also a regular in the Swiss national team set-up and has been linked with interest from the likes of AC Milan and Real Madrid.
Arsene Wenger has been strongly linked with youngsters such as Eden Hazard and Mario Goetze but the Gunners boss may be put off by the huge price tags on the Lille and Borussia Dortmund youngster’s heads and therefore could feel that a bid for Shaqiri is a more cost effective option.
Wenger has never been known for splashing the cash and given that the aforementioned starlets would cost in excess of £20m, some way more than Arsenal’s club record spend, then the North London club may feel it more realistic to make advances for a player such as Xherdan Shaqiri who’s valuation is sure to be far less due to the fact that the youngster has no top league experience.
A move for Shaqiri next summer may be all the more likely if Wenger opts to offload a number of his under-performing first team squad with the likes of Andrei Arshavin, Marouane Chamakh and loaned out pair Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela apparently set to leave Arsenal.
