Old Trafford side to lose centre back for prolonged period.
Manchster United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Nemanja Vidic could face up to four months out after suffering from medial ligament damage during their Champions League defeat to Basel on Wednesday.
The Serbian international was stretchered off after a collision with Marco Streller in the 41st minute. As they both fell to the ground in a tangle, the Basel captain’s weight fell on to Vidic’s straightened right leg with his knee bending towards the ground.
This is not good news for Sir Alex Ferguson. The Man United defence had a shaky period but when the Serbian international returned from injury the Old Trafford side started to pick up 1-0 wins a plenty and now he’s seemingly out for a prolonged period Ferguson will hope that the likes of Jonny Evans, Rio Ferdinand, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling can keep the back-line solid.
For the record in the six Premier League matches Vidic has started this season, Man United have conceded just two goals. In the eight that the 30 year old has not taken part in they have let in 10.
