Old Trafford boss to bring in January reinforcements?
Manchester United have confirmed that captain Nemanja Vidic will miss the rest of the season after suffering knee ligament damage in their 2-1 defeat at Basel in the Champions League.
The centre-half twisted his right knee tussling with Basel’s Marco Streller during the first half in Switzerland.
The Serbian and Streller chased down the ball and their legs tangled.
“Nemanja is out for the season,” United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said. “It is bad news. He will be a loss.”
Vidic immediately looked in distress after the incident and was carried off on a stretcher before leaving the ground on crutches.

This is indeed bad news. A cursory look at the stats this season show just how important the Serbian international still is for the Old Trafford side. In the six Premier League games that he has started this season Man United have conceded just two goals and in the eight that he has missed Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have let in 11. Those figures speak for themselves and the Scot will be looking to Jonny Evans, who has been in pretty good form for most of the season, to step up and aid Rio Ferdinand and Phil Jones in defence.
