Old Trafford manager interested in White Hart Lane midfielder.
Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be interested in Tottenham youngster Sandro as he looks at bringing in a defensive midfielder to add more steel to his Old Trafford side.
Though Ferguson has a number of central midfield options he lacks an out and out defensively minded combative player to help break down opposition advances and is now reportedly monitoring the Brazilian international who has struggled to fight his way back into the White Hart Lane starting eleven following the arrival of Scott Parker in the summer.
Man United were said to be keen on Sandro whilst he was with Porto Alegre side Internacional and Ferguson is looking to continue his policy of nabbing the best young talent around to help partner those coming through the club’s academy and a move for the 22 year old could be made in January.
Ferguson decided to not offer Owen Hargreaves a new deal in the summer due to injury concerns and during the many months the England spent out injured the Scot had to make do with the likes of Anderson, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher having to combine their usual forward thinking roles with a need to put in a defensive shift and arguably the role still needs to be filled in a more permanent fashion.
Sandro cost Tottenham around £8m and though he has only made 13 Premier League starts he has impressed many with his mature performances and in particular his performances in the Champions League last term attracted a great deal of attention.
Harry Redknapp has had to deal with very real interest in his first team regulars likes Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Rafael Van der Vaart and if a decent offer came in for Sandro and the player pushed for an exit, maybe it would be a move the Tottenham boss would consider in order to help fund January moves of his own?
