Old Trafford bench warmer wanted by Bundesliga side.
Reports in Germany are suggesting that Bayer Leverkusen may be considering making a January offer for Man United striker Dimitar Berbatov. The Bulgarian international spent five years at the Bundesliga side before moving to Tottenham and boss Robin Dutt has watched his side struggle for goals during the current campaign and may inquire as to the 30 year old’s availability.
Dimitar Berbatov has slipped down the Old Trafford pecking order and is currently behind Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck in Sir Alex Ferguson’s plans, despite finishing last season as the joint top scorer in the Premier League. Thus far this season he has made just one Premier League start and has just six months left to run on his contract and would then be free to leave for nothing in the summer.
Bayer Leverkusen finished last term as runners-up to Borussia Dortmund but have struggled for form this time around and currently sit in sixth spot, some 11 points behind leaders Bayern Munich. The BayArena side have managed just 22 goals in 17 Bundesliga matches and are said to be keen on the possibility of bringing Berbatov back to the club where he made his name.
Berbatov netted 91 goals in the six seasons he spent at Bayer Leverkusen and is currently being linked to a number of club’s who could offer the Man United regular first team football. Though there is reported interest from a number of Premier League sides, including Fulham and QPR, a move back to Germany may appeal to the talented striker.
