Busy month ahead at White Hart Lane.
Harry Redknapp has revealed he hopes to pull off one major transfer swoop in January to send out a message to the rest of the Premier League that Tottenham are a club moving in the right direction.
The likes of Scott Parker, Emmanuel Adebayor and Brad Friedel arrived at White Hart Lane during the summer to strengthen not only Spurs’ squad but their starting XI.
Redknapp’s men have enjoyed an excellent first half to the season and are currently third in the standings ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Norwich.
The manager is pleased with the options at his disposal and is not planning to do much business in the New Year, although he would love to land one world-class player to demonstrate Tottenham’s ambition.
“We’ve got to be a club looking to go places. The potential is great here. We sell out every week, we’ve got good players.
“If we’re going to make a signing, let’s make one big signing. That would send out a message.
“But it’s difficult finding that player who would make a difference.”

Harry Redknapp has seen his side go from strength to strength this term and if they were to win their games in hand the North London side may be the only real contenders to the front-runners from Manchester. However the Tottenham boss does not want to rest on his laurels and clearly the White Hart Lane boss likes to do business in transfer windows and this next one may be a crucial one for Spurs.
Having kept Luka Modric, and other big performers, from being nabbed over the summer Redknapp did some good deals to bring in top notch players in Friedel, Adebayor and Parker but perhaps another good quality player is needed to get the club kicking on.
Whether that player is another attacking option or perhaps a centre back, we don’t know, but these would appear to be the areas that most need additions. In terms of Tottenham’s midfielder, well they have one of the best in the Premier League and the same can be said for their wide men and full backs.
Chairman Daniel Levy has instructed Redknapp is sell before they splash the cash and five players are said to be heading for the exit.
Reports today suggest that Steven Pienaar and Niko Kranjcar are very much surplus to requirements. Tottenham will also listen to offers for versatile defender Vedran Corluka, Russian forward Roman Pavlyuchenko and Mexican international Giovani.
Redknapp will also look to offload loaned out former England internationals Jermaine Jenas and David Bentley.
