Emirates Stadium boss draws up shopping list.
Arsenal may be looking to loan deals this January however the club are ready to invest heavily during the summer to help bridge the gap between themselves and the dominant Manchester sides.
The North London side are looking for a striker and possible left sided defender in January with many touting former legend Thierry Henry as a possible signing, albeit for just two months. The summer though will see Wenger’s side look to bring three quality players which could cost Arsenal just over £42m.
Lukas Podolski tops their wish list with the club ready to offer Cologne a tempting £15m once the main transfer window opens. They are also keeping a close eye on Fiorentina’s Juan Manuel Vargas.
Yoann Gourcuff completes the wishlist with the Frenchman having always been a player admired by Arsene Wenger and would cost the club close to £15m.
This trio of potential signings are viable and realistic additions to an Arsenal squad that needs more strength in depth, a fact that has only been confirmed by the club’s recent injury woes. The need for Arsene Wenger to invest in new blood is all to obvious given the loss of big name players like Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas and Gael Clichy who were effectively replaced by the additions of Yossi Benayoun, Mikel Arteta and Andre Santos, who are not exactly like for like signings in terms of quality.
The need for new striking alternatives is perhaps the most obvious area Wenger needs to address. The Gunners boss is far too dependent on Robin Van Persie and the signings of Marouane Chamakh, Gervinho and Park Chu-Young have not rectified that fact but perhaps Lukas Podolski could?
Moves in January tend to be tricky ones to make and Wenger does not often do business in the winter window but then the Frenchman is usually more confident of sealing that all important top four spot, so perhaps deals in January are a possibility?
A move for Fiorentina’s left sided Peruvian Juan Manuel Vargas for instance is one that Wenger would do well to address next month as waiting until the summer may be a tricky assignment as the highly rated 28 year old will then be out of contract and will be beset with big salary options that Arsenal may not be able to match.
Yoann Gourcuff is perhaps a more natural long term replacement for Cesc Fabregas and is continually linked with a move to Arsenal, a move that may finally come to fruition this summer.
