Old Trafford boss hopes to win race for young playmaker.
Sir Alex Ferguson will reportedly look to seal a deal to sign Lille playmaker Eden Hazard next month. The Old Trafford manager will offer £25m plus a pick of a number of Man United squad players in exchange for the Belgian youngster and to help sweeten the deal the Scot will loan the attacking midfielder back to the Ligue 1 for the remainder of the season.
Ferguson is keen to beat off interest from other prospective suitors by making an offer in January that he hopes will appeal to Lille boss Rudi Garcia, who has already stated his belief that he will struggle to keep the highly rated 20 year old.
Hazard was pivotal in Lille’s domestic title success last term and has been in excellent form this term as they look to retain their Ligue 1 title. Thus far this season the adaptable midfielder has chalked up seven goals and five assists to help his side to third spot behind surprise package Montpellier and big spenders PSG as the French league went into it’s winter break.
Man United boss Ferguson has adopted a policy of bringing in youthful additions to help gel with those coming through the club’s academy as he looks to build for the future. Having brought in the likes of Javier Hernandez, Phil Jones, David de Gea and Chris Smalling Sir Alex is now looking to bring in Hazard.
Ferguson is willing to offer Lille a player swap as part of the deal with squad players Darron Gibson, Mame Biram Diouf and Michael Owen among those who he could be willing part with along with the £25m in order to persuade Lille to sell Hazard.
Having previously been linked with a number of other creative midfielder, including Luka Modric and Wesley Sneijder, it appears that Ferguson has opted to once again target youth and hopes to beat the likes of Real Madrid and Arsenal to the prized Lille starlet.
Hazard has made it clear that he will be looking at moving on after four seasons as a regular at the Stade Lille-Metropole and will surely be tempted by a move to the Premier League side.
