Stamford Bridge stars unhappy.
Chelsea players furious at Nicolas Anelka being banned from the club Christmas party – as revealed by Sportsmail – organised their own celebrations for the departing French striker on Friday in defiance of Andre Villas-Boas.
Anelka, who has moved to big-spending Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua after handing in a transfer request, was overlooked for the silver service lunch at the club’s Cobham training ground.
To make up for the snub, which was described by a friend of the striker as ‘an insult’, the rest of the Chelsea players entertained Anelka at London’s renowned Chinese restaurant, China Tang. at the Dorchester Hotel.
The blatant disregard for Villas-Boas’ stance is the clearest sign yet that the young Portuguese manager is struggling to keep on top of his star names.
Villas-Boas had already ordered the Frenchman’s locker to be emptied after the club accepted his transfer request in December.
Along with Alex, he was excluded from the first-team squad and the dressing rooms at Cobham as soon as the club agreed to sell the pair.
They were ordered to park their vehicles in the community car park and had been changing in the academy facilities for training.

Talk of this ‘mutiny’ is all over the back pages today and coupled with Chelsea’s average to poor start to the campaign puts more pressure on Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas.
A number of the club’s old guard have reportedly not taken well to the young Portuguese boss. Didier Drogba has found himself out of the first team, leading the Ivory Coast man to consider his future. Frank Lampard similarly has found himself in the unaccustomed position on the bench and both Alex and Nicolas Anelka put in transfer requests after failing to impress the former FC Porto man.
Roman Abramovich is however not said to be considering axing the Stamford Bridge boss just yet but if the West London club don’t pick up form soon then the Russian owner may reconsider his stance.
