Italian international on his way to the Etihad Stadium.
Man City are reportedly on the verge of securing a deal to sign experienced Italian midfield battler Daniel De Rossi. Roberto Mancini has been pursuing the 28 year old for some time and with the Roma man set to be out of contract at the Stadio Olimpico the Premier League leaders have offered a fee in the region of €10m (£8.3m) in order to snap him up this month.
Mancini is eager to bring in the one club man as he will lose pivotal midfielder Yaya Toure in the coming weeks as the Ivory Coast international sets off for the African Nations Cup.
De Rossi will be offered around £160k a week to help persuade the Rome born midfielder to leave the club he has represented since the age of 17.
Roberto Mancini is thought to be a huge admirer of the box to box midfielder who is known for his tough tackling and long range shooting ability. De Rossi has amassed 350 appearances for the Giallorossi but has seemingly failed to help his hometown club to success.
De Rossi has seen his Roma side finish as Serie A runners-up on five occasions during his tenure at the club and may well be tempted by a new challenge, not least because the current campaign, under new boss Luis Enrique, has not gone so well with the capital side sitting in seventh spot, some ten points off top spot.
Though Man City have a number of central midfield options, including the likes of Gareth Barry, Nigel de Jong, Owen Hargreaves and the aforementioned Yaya Toure, as well as James Milner (who can also play in the centre as well as out wide), Mancini values 70 cap De Rossi highly enough to challenge all those at his disposal.
