St James’ Park side look to head off interest in star striker.
NEWCASTLE United will look to offer Demba Ba a new contract to fend off interest in the in-form striker, who yesterday scooped a prestigious award.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp angered the club when he suggested Ba has a release clause in his contract.
The 26-year-old, yesterday named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for December after scoring five goals in six games, has been sensational since joining the club on a free transfer from West Ham United in the summer.
And his form at St James’s Park means he is being closely watched by a number of Premier League managers, among them Redknapp.
Redknapp said: “Demba Ba’s done great, hasn’t he? Everybody’s looking at him suddenly.
“Anybody could have had him a year ago. Full credit to Alan Pardew, he took him. They say there’s a release clause in his contract, that’s what we all hear.”

By all accounts it appears that Newcastle United striker Demba Ba’s current contract has a clause that would allow him to negotiate with rival clubs who offer £10m for his services and given the great form the Magpies striker has displayed, that is a fee many would be happy to pay.
Alan Pardew picked up the 26 year old French born Senegal international striker on a free after the contract clause he had with West Ham allowed him to leave on a free after the East London side were relegated.
Tottenham are very keen to pick up Demba Ba, who will be away at the African Nations Cup for the best part of six weeks, in the summer and the St James’ Park side will hope that the in form striker will sign a new deal to head off potential interest.
