Villa Park move on the cards for Irish international.
Alex McLeish hopes to have Robbie Keane signed, sealed and delivered as a claret and blue loan player by Monday.
McLeish revealed after the FA Cup win at Bristol Rovers that the Keane deal was nearing completion.
Villa boss McLeish is just waiting to get the move rubber-stamped.
Keane would be signing a short-term two-month contract at Villa, with the MLS season on hiatus.
McLeish said: “There’s red tape and it’s about cutting through that.
“We did hope we could have with him with us on Monday morning.
“We’re just waiting for clearance now.
“If Sharon, the club secretary, gets the green light he should be here Sunday night for Monday morning.”

It seems that Alex McLeish has taken a leaf out of Arsene Wenger’s book by looking to bring an MLS star back to the Premier League and a move to bring Robbie Keane to the Midlands is a sensible one.
Though Gabriel Agbonlahor and Darren Bent have gone off the boil in recent weeks they are both having decent seasons but the addition of another attacking option could well be of great use as McLeish looks to push Aston Villa back up the table.
Keane has done well at the LA Galaxy, netting four goals in nine matches to help his side to an MLS Cup triumph.
