Trotters defender set to complete Stamford Bridge move.
Sky Sports News sources understand Chelsea are set to finalise the signing of Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill later on Wednesday.
Chelsea agreed a fee with Bolton last month, but have yet to conclude personal terms to bring the England international to Stamford Bridge.
Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas previously revealed that the two parties were ‘miles apart’ and that had prompted speculation Cahill was reconsidering the chance to move to West London.
Reports also suggested that Premier League champions Manchester United were ready to make a late bid to hijack the deal, while Tottenham Hotspur have held a long-term interest in Cahill.
However, the centre-half is now poised to finalise his departure from the Reebok Stadium, where he is out of contract at the end of the season.

Chelsea’s back-line has been uncharacteristically shaky at points this season and it makes good sense to bring in another centre back option to shore things up. One could question whether signing the man who is the centre of a defence that has conceded more goals than any other Premier League side this season is a wise move but to be fair to Gary Cahill, the England international is a quality player who should fulfill his potential at Stamford Bridge.
Andre Villas-Boas was apparently already looking for reinforcements due to up and down form shown by David Luiz and Alex’s request to leave the West London club has meant a move for a new addition to bolster the back-line is very much in need.
