Brazilian to make short-distance switch from Stamford Bridge to Loftus Road.
Sky Sports sources understand Queens Park Rangers have agreed a fee for Chelsea defender Alex.
New Loftus Road boss Mark Hughes immediately targeted the Brazilian following his appointment earlier in January and is now closer to getting his man.
Alex wants out of Chelsea and in December the centre-back had a transfer request accepted by the club.
Andre Villas-Boas is aiming to remodel his squad and bring down the average age to mean the 29-year-old centre-back does not feature in his plans.
Sky sources reported on Friday evening that QPR had made an improved bid to Chelsea after making a first offer at the beginning of January and that has now been accepted.

Brazilian centre back Alex slapped in a transfer request some weeks ago and it appears that the 29 year old former PSV Eindhoven man is set to make a West London switch in the next couple of days as new QPR boss Mark Hughes looks to strengthen his defence.
Alex has made just three Premier League starts this term and has seen his first team options limited as Andre Villas-Boas opts for first choice pairing John Terry and David Luiz as his primary central defensive options with Branislav Ivanovic playing either as a centre back back up or as a right back. The arrival of Gary Cahill would have further limited the Brazilians first team chances.
QPR have kept just four clean sheets in 20 Premier League matches, the last of which came in October against nine man Chelsea so it is indeed wise for Hughes to look to address the Super Hoops defence swiftly to help in their fight to beat the drop.
