Is Aly Cissokho on his way to Emirates Stadium?
Arsenal’s quest to sign a full back could be alleviated in the near future as Olympique Lyonnais have revealed their willingness to let Aly Cissokho go this January.
Arsene Wenger has been linked with a swoop for the France international left back for some time, with recent reports suggesting a figure of around £8m would land his signature.
Now Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has given his view – and speaking to L’Equipe he made it clear Cissokho could depart.
“Possible winter departures? That doesn’t mean we don’t have any more means, but we want to keep the rules we set, which is to not increase deficit,” said Jean-Michel Aulas.
“The transfer of Aly Cissokho? I’m rather in favour of it.”
The only question for Arsene Wenger is whether Cissokho is needed.
With Thomas Vermaelen potentially available to face Manchester United and Kieran Gibbs soon to make his comeback from injury, Arsenal’s concerns at left back are suddenly not quite so pressing.
Andre Santos will return shortly afterwards, and then Arsenal will be back to their full complement of players in that position.
However, the fact that Arsenal’s defence has struggled in recent weeks could cost them a place in the top four, and Lyon’s desire to sell their player suggests that they are not particularly happy with his services.
