Stamford Bridge welcome new centre back.
In a tradition as time honoured as a tradition that is very old Gary Cahill is duty bound to hold up his club shirt as visual evidence that he is now a Chelsea player. In many ways such an image is as binding as the contract he no doubt signed and helps lay a long running transfer rumour to rest.
By all accounts the West London club paid Bolton around £7m for the England international, who had less than six months of his current contract to run.
There was much haggling over the former Aston Villa man’s wage demands which started at a whopping £100k a week but were reduced to a healthy £80k a week deal that will run until 2017, making Cahill a very rich man indeed.
The 26 year old will hope to push David Luiz for the spot alongside John Terry in the centre of the Blues defence and will probably expect to land a spot in Fabio Capello’s Euro 2012 squad following this high-profile move.
