Could Scott Dann be a good option for the Anfield defence?
Blackburn Rovers defender Scott Dann has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Liverpool.
The 24 year-old centre back only moved to Ewood Park in the summer, but is considering his future according to the Sun.
The tipping point for Dann has reportedly been defensive partner Chris Samba handing in a transfer request.
If Dann’s unrest is true, there could be a domino effect of unease through the Rovers squad at the way that owners Venky’s Group are handling the club.
Still, that is little of Liverpool’s concern.
Kenny Dalglish will have to replace Jamie Carragher at one stage – sooner rather than later – and while talks of a new contract are underway, the discussions will bridge the gap between his playing career and retirement with a role at the club.
Sebastian Coates has been signed, but currently receives little playing time, and a player ready to play in the Premier League week in week out could be a boon for the Merseyside club.
Dalglish will hope Dann can recapture his form from Birmingham City under Alex McLeish alongside Roger Johnson last season, with Johnson now playing at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Whilst Dann’s performances at Blackburn have been shaky at times, his games at his previous club indicate that given the right coaching he could recapture his best.
The Englishman cost Rovers £7m last summer, but Liverpool would hope to reduce that to around £5m.
