Sky Sports reporter Guillem Belague believes that Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero would “love to go” to Liverpool though a move to the Merseyside club is less likely now that German international Sami Khedira has been ruled out with an ankle injury.

Liverpool have targeted 24 year old midfielder Granero as the Anfield side looks to further stengthen their midfield following an average first half of the Premier League campaign. The versatile midfielder can play in a central role as well as out on the flanks and is said to be unhappy at his lack of playing time under Jose Mourinho.

Granero hasn’t made a La Liga start this term and made just eight starts in the Spanish top tier last season and is very much a bit part player at the Bernabeu. Whilst Khedira’s injury will bring the Madrid born utility man nearer to the startign eleven it is likely he will still just be warming the bench as Lassana Diarra steps into the breach.

Anfield director of football Damien Comolli has earmarked a move for the Real Madrid man with talk of an initial loan move much speculated but as Guillem Belague points out, such a move may now have to wait until the summer.

Though Liverpool brought in the likes of Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam in the summer they also lost Raul Meireles to Chelsea and are likely to offload Alberto Aquilani and Joe Cole on a permanent basis as both impress in their respective loan spells at AC Milan and Lille.
