Emirates Stadium boss wants Etihad Stadium star apparently?
Arsene Wenger is closely watching the situation of Nigel De Jong at Manchester City with a view to making a move for the player.
The midfield hard-man was a key figure in Roberto Mancini’s plans last term but appears to have fallen out of favour with the Italian boss as he opts for a more attacking approach in his team’s play, a style that only calls for one defensive midfielder, a role normally filled by Yaya Toure or Gareth Barry.
Arsenal have been on the look out for a midfield destroyer for the past few seasons, and the Dutch international would be perfect for the role, however the players’s wages may prove to be a stumbling block along with the transfer fee he would command.

Really? It would appear unlikely that Arsene Wenger would make a move for Man City midfielder Nigel de Jong for a number of reasons. Firstly the Gunners boss is more likely to look to bring in additions that resolve two problems areas, namely the lack of fit full-backs and effective attacking alternatives to captain Robin Van Persie.
Also a move for Nigel de Jong would set Arsenal quite a bit of money and the Emirates Stadium manager is not known for splashing the cash and given that Arsenal have battlers like Alex Song and the up and coming youngster Emmanuel Frimpong, a move for extra steel is probably some way down the North London club’s list of priorities this month.
