White Hart Lane side keen on La Liga forward.
Tottenham have declared an interest in Villarreal striker Nilmar, but have baulked at the £20m price tag.
The 27-year-old Brazilian has 23 caps, but has struggled with injuries this season. He underwent knee surgery in November but is now back to full fitness.
Villarreal are struggling at the foot of La Liga and are reported to be prepared to offload the former Lyon striker who joined them back in 2009 – but they want a huge fee for him.
Harry Redknapp may well be unwilling to spend £20m on the Brazilian international and I can’t say I blame him. Nilmar has been a fairly consistent goalscorer at Villarreal over the past two and a half seasons, but has notched up just two goals in 15 appearances this term so perhaps the Yellow Submarines may want to cut their price if they are keen on cashing in on the 27 year old.
Tottenham do not have a great many striking options with their man attacking threat this season coming from on loan forward Emmanuel Adebayor. Jermain Defoe has struggled to get regular first team football and Roman Pavlyuchenko has barely had a look in and may well be on his way back to Russia.
Villarreal have struggled this season and are sitting in an unaccustomed position second from bottom after eight successive top ten finishes and as a result José Francisco Molina may struggle to keep their big name performers, including fellow striker Giuseppe Rossi.
Nilmar has had no problem finding the net for the Brazilian national team, scoring nine times in 23 appearances, though the former Internacional man struggled in France with Lyon and it seems unlikely that Harry Redknapp will break Tottenham’s transfer purchase record on the Villarreal man.
