Arsene Wenger looking to bring Argentine to the Emirates Stadium.
MARK HUGHES has joined Arsenal in the chase for Lazio’s Argentine striker Mauro Zarate, 24.
Lazio say they will now listen to an offer in the region of £10m for the player who is currently on loan at Inter Milan.

Arsenal could well do with giving Robin Van Persie some support up front but one wonders if Lazio striker Mauro Zarate is a big enough name to prove to the Dutchman that the North London is willing, and able, to capture big name additions that can help end a very lean period of form that the North London side has suffered in recent seasons.
The 24 year old has not done well at Inter Milan this season, failing to score in 12 Serie A matches during his loan spell at the San Siro. Therefore it is unlikely that Claudio Ranieri would be keen on making any temporary deal a permanent one. The former Velez Sarsfield man spent a season in Qatar with Al-Sadd before he moved to the Premier League on a loan deal at Birmingham City.
Zarate showed some nice touches and obvious ability and managed four goals in 14 games at the St Andrews’ side before they were relegated to the Championship. A loan move at Lazio was more successful and led to a permanent deal in 2009.
The Gunners have been heavily dependent on Van Persie for goals over the past two seasons and the likes of Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh have failed to weigh in with sufficient regularity, leading to much talk of further additions. Strikers Carlos Vela and Nicklas Bendtner have been loaned out and now the North London side will be looking for alternatives.
Robin Van Persie has less than 18 months to run on his current contract and there is a fear that Wenger will struggle to keep the Gunners skipper in the summer unless he sees significant signings being made. Is Zarate good enough to make it in the Premier League and indeed is he a ‘big’ enough name to prove to the Arsenal captain that they can turn their fortunes around.
QPR may prove a more likely destination for the Argentine, if indeed Lazio do opt to sell the forward.
