Etihad Stadium striker set for punishment after incident with White Hart Lane midfielder.
Harry Redknapp isn’t happy with Man City forward Mario Balotelli, or indeed referee Howard Webb, as the White Hart Lane boss believes that the young Italian deliberately stamped on Scott Parker and should have been sent off the field some time before he won, and put away, the penalty that handed the Premier League table toppers a 3-2 win over their visitors from North London.
“The first one could have been an accident, but on the second one he’s backheeled him straight in the head,” Redknapp said.
“It is not the first time he has done that and I am sure it won’t be the last.
“I am the last person to talk about getting people sent off and what they should and shouldn’t do.
“But it is blatant. He reacts to challenges like that at times. Scott has got a cut on his head.” (BBC Sport)
If you missed the incident in question, here it is below.
Mark Ogden reporting in the Telegraph believes a four game is on the cards for the Man City striker, and that seems fairly likely given that the incident was seemingly missed by Webb and leaves the door open for retrospective action.
If you watch the way in which Balotelli’s momentum shifts as he is challenged by Scott Parker it does seem as though the Man City man accidentally kicks the Tottenham man with his standing leg but where gravity would automatically leave his trailing leg falling away from the midfielder instead it appears that he deliberately catches his opponent, landing him a painful blow.
Roberto Mancini will no doubt fight any such suspension as such punishment could hamper his sides title charge, though clearly Man City have the likes of Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko as his current first two striking options anyway.
