Anfield side keen on Chilean international.
Liverpool are leading the chase to sign Udinese defender Mauricio Isla.
Isla, 23, has been impressive for the Italian club and has caught the eye of Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish, who is looking to strengthen his squad in January.
The Chile international has also been linked with several big clubs in Italy but reports in South America suggest that Liverpool are winning the race to clinch his signature.
Isla can operate as a wing-back and can also playing across the midfield and his versatility will appeal to the Liverpool boss.
Udinese will be keen to keep their star defender at the club but would consider offers in the region of £10m.
Mauricio Isla is a very adaptable performer who can play in a number of positions but is perhaps most effective in a right wing-back role, and this may well be a position that Kenny Dalglish is keen to fill. Though the Liverpool boss has the likes of Martin Kelly and Glen Johnson fighting for the right back spot there is a lack of a natural wide player ahead helping to drive forward momentum.
Udinese lost the services of Isla’s national team-mate Alexis Sanchez over the summer as he left for Barcelona but Francesco Guidolin’s side haven’t appeared to have suffered too badly. Last term they finished fourth and currently sit in third spot just three points from leaders Juventus.
Isla is into his fifth season at the Stadio Friuli side and may well be tempted by a move to the Premier League but it may take some persuading for Udinese to sell one of their established stars.
Dalglish has tried both Dirk Kuyt and Jordan Henderson in a right sided position and neither has made much of an impact, hence the possible need to bring in Isla. The 23 year old has a good turn of pace and can deliver good crosses into the box and could prove a fairly inexpensive addition to the Anfield squad this month as Liverpool look to clinch an all important coveted top four finish.
