Liverpool are considering an interesting swoop for FC Twente ace Luuk De Jong to fix their goalscoring problems, with the Eredivisie club confirming widespread interest in their player.

“There might have been a lot of club that are interested but there has been nothing official and we have not had any clubs who have officially approached us or made a bid of £10 million or so to buy him,” a Twente source explained to Goal.com.

“Luuk is already playing for the national side although he is behind Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Robin Van Persie and Dirk Kuyt who are a little bit better but they are a little bit older than Luuk.

“But we think that he will go to Poland and Ukraine for the European Championships and we hope he stays with Twente for a long time but there is a lot of silly money in England and that has damaged us in the past.

It is clear that the Merseyside club are struggling of late.

They are sixteenth in the form table based on the last six games, and it is no wonder that manager Kenny Dalglish and his Director of Football Damien Comolli are having questions asked of them.

Liverpool create plenty of chances each match, but seem unable to put them away, and a striker able to find the back of the net seems a must.

Andy Carroll has not yet proven to be that player, with the tall Geordie struggling to adapt to a different style of play at Anfield, having previously had a team tailored to his strengths in Newcastle United.

Even Luis Suarez has proven exceptionally profligate in front of goal, and it could be argued that Liverpool have struggled more without the injured Lucas Leiva than the suspended Suarez.

De Jong would be something of a gamble to convert those chances, though the Netherlands international has considerable potential.

The proverbial fox in the box is exactly what Liverpool need, and De Jong could be the man to finish the plethora of chances they create.

Perhaps then Liverpool will again begin to challenge.
