Tottenham Hotspur winger Giovani dos Santos looks increasingly likely to leave the club this month, with two Spanish clubs reportedly competing for his services.
The Mexican was once thought of as the next big thing at Barcelona, but has struggled to win a regular place in the Spurs team.
He scored one of the best goals of 2011, with his strike against the USA in the FIFA CONCACAF Gold Cup final voted amongst the top ten of the last year’s Puskas Award – ultimately losing out to Neymar’s brilliant goal for Santos.
At present though, Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp appears to have little faith in the 22 year-old.
Dos Santos has only made four appearances from the bench so far in the Premier League, and four starts in the UEFA Europa League, scoring one goal.
La Liga clubs Villarreal and Granada now claim they are in negotiations with Spurs to sign the Mexican, hoping he can bring his performances from his Barcelona days back to the Primera Division.
“The negotiations are going well and it seems the player wants to come to Villarreal,” said Villarreal club president Jose Manuel Llaneza, but Granada clearly have other ideas.
“We are the only Spanish club that has made a formal offer for him but we are running out of days before the end of the transfer window and it could be that another club will come in tomorrow with more money,” said Granada president Quique Pina.
