Borussia Dortmund striker Lucas Barrios is the subject of interest from both Arsenal and Manchester City – as well as Queens Park Rangers and Sunderland, according to German tabloid Bild.

The 27 year-old has scored 35 goals in 75 games for the Bundesliga team, winning the title last season with 16 goals in 32 games. The previous campaign he notched 19 in 33 league appearances, illustrating impressive consistency.

However, this season hasn’t been quite so successful for Barrios.

He has only started one game in each of the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League, with his place in the team taken by Robert Lewandowski.

It is this that may result in him seeking pastures new.

Arsene Wenger and Roberto Mancini, managers of Arsenal and Manchester City respectively, are likely to be well aware of his prolific record over the last two seasons.

QPR and Sunderland are unlikely to be able to compete with those two clubs either financially or in terms of prestige though, and may have to drop out the race.

With Manchester City boasting a strikeforce containing the likes of Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli, Edin Dzeko and a certain forgotten chap called Carlos Tevez, there seems little place for Barrios in the team, and there would be little reason to leave one bench for another.

Except financial of course.

Arsenal have a clearer vacancy up front.

The Gunners are highly reliant on Robin van Persie for goals, and Barrios might be able to take some of the strain off of the Dutchman, with Marouane Chamakh playing more of an ornamental role than a threatening one when selected up front.

Bild suggest that a bid of €10m (approximately £8m) could bring Barrios to the Premier League.
