Andre Villas-Boas hopes to bring Etihad Stadium man to Stamford Bridge.
Reports are suggesting that Chelsea could be prepared to bail Adam Johnson out of his predicament at the Etihad Stadium with a last ditch January effort.
The winger has been linked with moves away from Manchester City for the majority of the January transfer window, with Arsenal and Liverpool showing particular interest.
Chelsea have reason to go for the English international as it seems Salomon Kalou and Florent Malouda are both destined for 2012 exits from Stamford Bridge meaning space will be available for Johnson.
Roberto Mancini is known to be a fan of Johnson’s, but may be forced to let go of his attacker if Chelsea meet his £14m asking price.
Adam Johnson can not be all that happy at his lack of first team action at Man City, even if Roberto Mancini’s side are top of the Premier League pile. The 24 year old has signed a new extended contract recently but may well have expected more of a run in the first team, thus far this season the former Middlesbrough man has made just six Premier League starts so perhaps a move to Chelsea may tempt the England international winger.
The lack of action may well hinder the winger’s chances of making it to the Euro 2012 finals and a high profile move to Stamford Bridge could help keep him at the forefront of Fabio Capello’s squad selection plans.
One does wonder where Man City would consider selling to a direct rival, something Roberto Mancini is known for avoiding, and the chances of such a deal taking place in the next few days are slim.
