Racist gesture claims at Liverpool-Manchester Utd game investigated
Claims a fan made a racist gesture during an FA Cup tie between Liverpool and Manchester Utd are being investigated by police.
Merseyside officers are reviewing footage of the match.
Match Commander Ch Supt Jon Ward said: “This matter is now under investigation by specialist hate crime detectives and we are working with Liverpool Football Club to identify the man in question.”
Officers have released a picture of a man in connection with the incident.
Police said 17 people were ejected from the ground during the match, adding that two people were arrested for “low level incidents”.
The force added that during high profile matches it monitored social networking sites such as Twitter.

Given the back story to this meeting of two great rivals, the back story being the Luis Suarez/Patrice Evra incident that led to an eight match ban for the Uruguayan, it takes a fairly sick individual to commit such a racist gesture. According to the source above, namely the BBC, the police are not looking into this incident and will determine what course to take. If found guilty the supporter in question should really be banned from attending football matches as such behaviour should simply not be tolerated.
