Anfield side chase impressive pair.
Liverpool are watching Atletico Madrid pair Diego Godin and Alvaro Dominguez.
Cadena Ser says Liverpool chief Damien Comolli is having both players watched this season.
Godin has been a long-term target for Chelsea, while Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admires Dominguez.
Diego Godin may well be keen on a move to Anfield to join up with this Uruguayan international teammates Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates. The 25 year old centre back is considered one of the most reliable defenders in La Liga and Chelsea were reportedly close to snapping up the Atletico Madrid man but in the end opted for a cheaper defensive solution by signing Bolton’s Gary Cahill.
Godin is in his second season at the Vicente Calderon and joined Atletico Madrid after three good years at Villarreal. Perhaps Kenny Dalglish feels he could do with another central defensive option with Jamie Carragher at the latter stages of his Liverpool career and Daniel Agger being something of an injury concern.
Alvaro Dominguez is an adaptable defender who can play either at left back or in the centre of the defence and the 22 year old is on the fringes of the Spanish senior international set-up. The local born youngster has been at Atletico since the age of 12 so it could prove a fairly big wrench for the powerfully built defender to consider a move to the Premier League.
This pair are valued at around £20m and whilst the duo are very able performers one wonders if Liverpool need to spend to reinforce their back line when they are still one of the most solid Premier League sides defensively. Perhaps funds could be more well spent on bringing in attacking back up options?
