Villa Park boss wants Anfield man.
Liverpool loanee to become subject of revived Villa bid
With his loan spell in France going better than many expected, the future of Joe Cole seems open to interpretation, however a move to Aston Villa has once again popped up as a summer possibility.
Alex McCleish was rumoured to be interested in the Englishman’s signature in August before Cole completed a season-long loan to Ligue 1 champions Lille.
The 30 year-old has impressed this campaign scoring five goals and making just as many assists in just twenty starts for the side.
Some have speculated that Cole may choose to make his move permanent should Lille make an offer for the midfielder.
However, with interest in his talent now rising once more, a move back to his home country may appeal more to the former Chelsea star.
Villa reportedly launched a £4.5m offer for Cole last summer and while they may not be willing to pay the same fee for the wideman, a bid could be prepared for season’s end.
One would imagine that Joe Cole would prefer to stay at Lille if indeed he is offloaded by Liverpool, not least because the Ligue 1 side, sitting in third spot, may well be able to offer the England man Champions League football next term. The 30 year old former England international has had a good season at the Stade Metropole and boss Rudi Garcia may well be looking to sign the former Chelsea man on a permanent basis if they lose Eden Hazard in the summer.
Alex McLeish has not had the best of debut seasons at Villa Park and a move to the Midlands club would not appear to be all that attractive at present.
