Arsenal’s 4-0 humiliation at the hands of AC Milan last night may have more repercussions than just a likely exit of the UEFA Champions League.

Reports across Europe claim that it will signal the departure of their captain Robin van Persie to either the Rossoneri themselves or FC Barcelona.

Indeed, Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo claim that the loss to Milan only confirmed the Dutchman’s fears about the Gunners’ prospects of winning trophies, and his dream is now to join his friend – and former playing colleague – Cesc Fabregas at Camp Nou.

Fabregas has settled in sublimely at Camp Nou, and has already won the Supercopa de Espana, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup, whilst Arsenal only really have the FA Cup to play for this season to avoid going a 7th season without a trophy.

Van Persie was also the subject of quotes from AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani, which led him to be linked heavily with a move to the San Siro club.

“I saw a fantastic player for Arsenal in Robin van Persie, who I like very much,” extolled Galliani about the Dutchman.

“I just like good football. I follow English football and Van Persie, I believe, is a fantastic player.”

Was yesterday evening’s match between Arsenal and AC Milan the straw that broke the camel’s back with regards to van Persie’s future at the Emirates Stadium?
