Nou Camp side keen on Emirates Stadium goal machine.
Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola is reportedly ready to launch a summer bid for Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie as he looks to boost his Nou Camp attacking options.
Guardiola’s Catalan side have fallen some way back in the La Liga title race and now feels his side could do with more orthodox striking options having seen his side become very dependent on Lionel Messi for goals. Spanish international David Villa, currently sidelined with a foot injury, has struggled for form since his move to Barcelona from Valencia and Van Persie is being considered as an alternative to the 30 year old forward.
Robin Van Persie will have a year to run on his current contract at the end of the season and Arsene Wenger has thus far failed to persuade the Dutchman to sign a new deal and having seen Arsenal crash out of the FA Cup and likely to be knocked out by AC Milan in the Champions League, the Gunners will register a seventh successive season without silverware, which may well lead the former Feyenoord man to consider his future at the Emirates Stadium.
If Arsene Wenger fails to seal a top four spot this term then he may find it even harder to persuade Van Persie to put pen to paper and a move to Barcelona may well tempt the 28 year old, where he would of course join his former Arsenal team-mate Cesc Fabregas, who moved back to his former club last summer.
Arsenal may have to consider offers for Van Persie this summer if they can not tie the striker down to a new deal as his value will begin to significantly reduce over the course of what would be the final season of his contract, a similar situation left Wenger with no choice other than to accept Man City’s £25m bid for Samir Nasri and Gunners fans will be worried that they could lose their prized asset as a result of a continuing inability to mount a genuine challenge for the Premier League title.
