Chelsea chief Roman Abramovich is setting up a sensational swoop for Serbian starlet Lazar Markovic – the teenage forward rated at a staggering £14million.

Abramovich is making his move for the Partizan Belgrade hitman after Liverpool were scared off by the price tag.

The Stamford Bridge chief has put some of his best agent allies on the case to land Markovic, who could go straight into the first team.

Andre Villas-Boas appears keen to reverse the ageing nature of the squad he inherited from Carlo Ancelotti and a move for Lazar Markovic would be the latest in a line of moves for youngsters with great potential.

Chelsea have brought in the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Juan Mata, Oriol Romeu, Lucas Piazon, Patrick Bamford and Kevin de Bruyne and Villas-Boas has shown more faith in striker Daniel Sturridge than his predecessor whilst also offloading elder statesman Nicolas Anelka and Alex.

It would appear that Roman Abramovich is more than able to edge Liverpool in the transfer market stakes and even though the Merseyside club spent over £100m on new additions the Russian still has deeper pockets than the Americans who run things at Anfield.

Markovic has already appeared for the Serbian Under 21 international despite being just 17 years of age, such is his apparent ability. The talented striker has netted seven times in 20 appearances for Partizan Belgrade this term, helping Avram Grant’s side to a ten point lead at the top of the domestic table.

Indeed the presence of the former Blues boss at Partizan may well aid a move for Markovic as the Israeli is supposed to have a good relationship with Mr. Abramovich.
