Werder Bremen star Marko Marin has refused to deny reports linking him with a transfer to either Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur, with Serie A giants AC Milan and AS Roma also mentioned as potential destinations.

The pint sized playmaker has regularly earned comparisons with the best player in the world, Lionel Messi, and while he is not at the same level as the Argentine star reached at this point of his career, the similarities are still clear.

Marin is a highly accomplished dribbler with the ball at his feet, and his pace, balance and low centre of gravity make it difficult to take the ball off him at speed.

The 22 year-old has earned plaudits for his contributions to the team this season, and has already earned 16 caps for Germany in his short career.

With both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool particularly looking for more invention in midfield, Marin could be a great bet.

Capable of playing either out wide on either flank or through the middle behind a striker, Marin’s versatility would likely appeal to either team, and his speed of thought in a fast paced and physical league could be vital.

For now though, he is concentrating on his immediate future at Werder Bremen.

Answering an interview question on Twitter regarding his future, with Liverpool, Spurs, AC Milan and Roma put to the German playmaker, Marin was coy.

“It’s nice to be of interest to such great teams, but I am concentrating on doing my best for Werder.”

Perhaps in the summer, he will change his mind.
