Emirates Stadium boss keen on Bernabeu star.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will look reportedly to lure Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema to the Emirates Stadium this summer. The Gunners boss has earmarked a move the French international as he looks to boost his attacking options and hopes to persuade the former Lyon man to make the move to the North London club.
Wenger had been strongly linked with Benzema prior to his move from Lyon to the La Liga giants and it may take some persuasion to tempt the 24 year old to leave Real Madrid as he appears to have edged Argentine Gonzalo Higuain in Jose Mourinho’s first team plans this term.
Benzema has been in good form this season, netting 21 goals this season and Wenger is said to be looking to pair the Real Madrid man with Robin Van Persie but knows that any chance of bringing the French international to the club would be hampered if Arsenal fail to secure a top four finish and failing to secure Champions League qualification.
With the likes of Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh failing to provide goal-scoring support Van Persie Arsenal could well do with alternative striking options but any move for Benzema would have to entail a bid way in excess of the club’s record transfer fee spend.
Wenger has been promised significant transfer funds this summer and have been linked with a number of prospective targets including Bundesliga duo Mario Gotze and Lukas Podolski.
Benzema moved to Real Madrid in July 2009 for a fee of £34m.
