Nou Camp side want Stamford Bridge defender.
Barcelona are lining up a summer move for Chelsea defender David Luiz as Pep Guardiola looks to increase his options at the back.
The Brazilian admits ‘every player would love to play for Barcelona’, but insists he is ‘100 per cent’ a Chelsea player.
Barca have made Thiago Silva their No 1 defensive target this summer, but initial enquiries suggest their valuation of the 27-year-old varies wildly from AC Milan’s.
The Spanish champions are prepared to pay up to £20million for Silva, but have been quoted a figure nearer £35m.
Luiz caught the attention of Barca scouts while at Benfica and his tactical versatility fits with Guardiola’s desire to maintain a reasonably small squad.
The 24-year-old has sometimes looked vulnerable at the heart of Chelsea’s defence since signing 13 months ago for £25m, and Barca feel the London club could be open to negotiation.
After playing for Brazil against Bosnia, Luiz was asked about the interest from Catalonia.
‘I would be lying if I said I know nothing,’ he told Spanish newspaper Sport.
‘I am aware, not least because for months there have been constant rumours about Barca’s interest.
‘What I can confirm is that I have not negotiated anything and no-one has submitted a concrete offer. I am 100 per cent a Chelsea player.
‘Barca are a great team that play fantastic football. Every player would love to play for Barcelona, but I am with Chelsea and I have an obligation to my club.’

Chelsea’s David Luiz has had a fairly up and down time of it since his move to Chelsea 13 months ago so it’s fairly surprising that Barcelona would take such a keen interest in the Brazilian international. The Blues defender has at times looked naive and error prone at the back but clearly has the makings and potential to be one of the world’s best and perhaps that’s why Pep Guardiola is keen on the Stamford Bridge man.
With Carles Puyol getting on in years and suffering various knocks over the past 18 months, Guardiola could well do with a defensive alternative and AC Milan’s Thiago Silva was hotly tipped to move to the Nou Camp but it seems that the Serie A side has no intention of selling the centre back and given that the Italian giants are looking a decent bet to retain their domestic title, as well as progressing nicely in the Champions League, perhaps the 27 year old has no interest in moving to the Catalan side.
Guardiola does not have a great deal of strength in depth at the back, leading to the likes of Eric Abidal and Javier Mascherano having to fill in in the centre of defence for large chunks of the past two campaigns.
Luiz is a very attack minded defender and he has the ability to press forward and feed an attack but there are still questions about his tactical nous as he is continually pulled out of position or often over commits leaving his side weak at the back.
Gary Cahill’s arrival led many to see Andre Villas-Boas as looking to pair the England man with Luiz, with John Terry in the latter stages of his career but perhaps Barcelona have alternative plans for the 24 year old.
