Old Trafford boss wants San Siro defender.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will this summer plot a move to lure AC Milan centre back Thiago Silva to Old Trafford. The Scot has had the 27 year old scouted in recent months and the glowing reports he has received has led to the intention to make a significant offer for the Brazilian international.
With Rio Ferdinand at the latter stage of his career and Nemanja Vidic suffering with injury concerns Ferguson is looking to strengthen his defence and sees the San Siro star as the man to fill the void. Whilst Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are very much seen as players with a great deal of potentially arguably both have performed far better in alternative roles as right back and defensive midfielder respectively.
It may take some persuading to lure Silva away from AC Milan given that the Italian giants landing the Serie A title last term and are running unbeaten Juventus to the wire this season as well as looking imperious in the Champions League to boot.
Ferguson may hope that the fact he has three Brazilian compatriots in the form of Fabio, Rafael and Anderson could help tempt Silva into considering a move to the Premier League title holders.
Man United are said to be ready to offer as much as £25m for the former Fluminense man and Ferguson will be backed financially in the transfer market this summer as they look to keep pace with their big spending neighbours Man City.
Thiago Silva has adapted well to life in Italy, notching up over 100 appearances in the two and a half seasons he has spent at the club and he is now a regular in Mano Menezes’s Brazilian national team set-up.
