Etihad Stadium boss hits the nail on the proverbial head.
So Man City make it 14 wins from 14 Premier League home games with a fairly standard victory over strugglers Bolton. However when Roberto Mancini is inevitably quizzed about his reaction to reports that Mario Balotelli was out partying in a strip bar barely 36 hours before the match the Italian boss registers possibly the funniest quote of the season.
“I’m really disappointed,” said Mancini when asked about the 21-year-old’s most recent alleged transgression.
“But I need to speak to him because I don’t know what or when it has happened. I will [stick with him] because he’s a good player but, if it is true, I will speak with him tomorrow and decide about the fine.
“Maybe if he goes to bed earlier, maybe he scores three goals [against Bolton]. Maybe he missed four goals for this reason.”
This just about sums up Mr. Balotelli in a nutshell. A player of great potential who’s off field antics, as entertaining and insane as they are, could well hold him back. Mancini is in fact probably spot on. His young striker did miss a hatful of chances and perhaps his late night partying is the reason for this. However the former Inter Milan forward did score and has a pretty damn decent record this term, notching up 14 goals in 15 starts.
If he can do that despite his partying ways perhaps Fernando Torres should try staying out late at a local Chelsea strip bar?
