Celtic are ready to make a sensational move to English football – and start a new life in the npower League One.
Top-level exploratory talks that are going on in secret could result in the Glasgow giants QUITTING the Scottish Premier League and taking up a place in the third tier of English football, among the likes of Scunthorpe and Tranmere Rovers.
Senior officials and connections with the Parkhead outfit have made contact with both the Premier League and Football League about the mind-boggling prospect.

Now the idea of either Old Firm side moving South of the Border is of course nothing new but perhaps the huge financial disaster that is playing out at Ibrox makes the possibility of Celtic fleeing the SPL that little bit more believable?
If Rangers were to go to the wall and go bust or be demoted to the second tier then perhaps Celtic would feel that there was no other option other than to consider a move to the English league, that is of course if UEFA accepted such a decision, which is of course debatable.
The bigger question is whether Celtic, or indeed Rangers can afford to remain in the Scottish Premier League. Can either Scottish giant survive in the long term in a division that struggles to make ends meet. Whilst the Gers’ find themselves in a hole of Craig Whyte’s making the simple truth is that there isn’t enough money in the league in it’s current format to cover the cost or running the two major clubs.
Whilst a move to the English League One is an unlikely one it seems pretty clear that something needs to be done to make the SPL more competitive and financially viable before any other sides in the Scottish top tier go to the wall.
