Nou Camp youngster on Old Trafford radar.

Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly ready to join the race to sign Barcelona youngster Cristian Tello who has stalled on signing a new deal as he fights to secure a regular spot in Pep Guardiola’s first team plans. The 20 year old Spaniard has become a much sought after target after impressing this term with a number of effective cameo appearances for his Nou Camp side and the Man United boss is said to be ready to launch a bid for the starlet.

Tello has proved an instant hit on his debut season in the Barcelona first team, netting seven goals in 14 appearances, most of which have been coming on from the bench and the manner in which he has seamlessly linked up with the Catalan club’s established stars has led to a number of Europe’s elite beating a path to the Spanish youngster.

Sir Alex Ferguson has adopted a youthful transfer policy over the past couple of seasons, preferring in the main to target young up and coming talents as opposed to big name captures, it’s a policy that has served the Old Trafford side well with the likes of Javier Hernandez, David de Gea, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones all cementing pivotal spots in the Man United first team picture.

Tello is stalling on signing a new deal, despite his regular spot in the Barcelona first team squad, and with the Barcelona youngster having just over a year to run on his current contract it may prove tough for Guardiola to keep hold of the talented forward.

The adaptable attacker can play either as an orthodox striker or in his preferred position out on the left flank.

Many sources believe it could take an offer of around €10m (£8.4m) to bring Tello to Man United as Barcelona will not wish to see the player leave for nothing on the completion of his current deal though Guardiola may not be all that keen on selling to a rival Champions League competitor.

The likes of Liverpool, Valencia and Roma have also been strongly linked with moves for the up and coming Barcelona talent.
