The term ‘Bad loser’ springs to mind as Benfica president alleges his side were cheated out of the showpiece tournament in Stamford Bridge encounter.
Benfica are pretty poor losers it seems. Before the game manager Jorge Jesus said Chelsea were lucky to be at the stage in the compeition they were and that their luck was about to run out.
Then afterwards Jesus is quoted by The Independent as saying “Over the two games we proved we were much the better team. What hurts me is that we’ve knocked out better teams than this Chelsea. I may be wrong but I believe Chelsea have no chance against Barcelona.”
The Portuguese club suggest something more sinister with President Luis Filipe Vieira quoted by AS.com as saying “Benfica with the Federation (Portugal) will do something. Although I do not know if the Federation has the power to achieve something. It is so obvious that this is a business today and (they) do not want the Benfica to pass,”
He then goes on to say that even if it upsets UEFA and Platini, Benfica will be back in the competition.
