Etihad Stadium boss looks to test White Hart Lane side’s resolve with hefty bid for impressive youngster.
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has earmarked a move for Tottenham winger Gareth Bale and has made the Welsh international his number one summer target. The Etihad Stadium side are ready to make an offer of up to £50m for the 22 year old and will hope that such a bid would prove too high for White Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy to ignore.
The former Southampton man has been in top form over the past two seasons and has attracted a great deal of interest and if Tottenham’s shaky recent form continues and Harry Redknapp’s side manage to find themselves failing to secure a Champions League spot for next term, something that looked a certainty just six weeks ago, then the wide-man may be more inclined to push for an exit from the North London club.
Bale has scored goals and laid on assists with regularity over the past 18 months and his form in last season’s Champions League run showed just what he is capable at the very highest level.
Mancini feels that Gareth Bale could greatly improve his options on the left hand side of his midfield and will once again look to his club’s rich owners to fund major advances in the transfer market but will also look to trim his massive Man City squad in order to help build a hefty transfer fund pot.
The Italian is ready to offload as many as ten of his current first team squad with loaned out strikers Roque Santa Cruz and Emmanuel Adebayor certain to leave as well as Wayne Bridge, Michael Johnson and Vladimir Weiss who are currently at Sunderland, Leicester City and Espanyol respectively.
Mancini is also ready to listen to offers for Nigel De Jong, Edin Dzeko, Aleksandr Kolarov and Mario Balotelli.
Tottenham may well struggle to keep their top stars if a top four spot is not secured and could prove all the more vulnerable if Harry Redknapp is persuaded to fill the vacant England manager role.
