Roberto Mancini looks to trim his Etihad Stadium squad ahead of new round of spending.
Manchester City old boy Daniel Sturridge is being lined up to form part of Roberto Mancini’s new guard next season.
Up to six of the current first-team are facing the axe this summer with doubts over the long-term futures of Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko, Mario Balotelli, Adam Johnson, Aleksandar Kolarov and Nigel de Jong.

Such is the size of Roberto Mancini’s Etihad Stadium squad that none of the six players named, all recognised internationals, are regulars in the Man City first team and are all to some extent playing second fiddle to other top notch players who inhabit their spot in the team.
Carlos Tevez did of course go AWOL after his bench bound antics at Bayern Munich and even though the Argentine has been welcomed back into the fold, and scored four goals in his last two appearances, Mancini is still eager to get rid of the troublesome influence but apparently wants a big fee for the former West Ham and Man United man.
Similarly troubled Mario Balotelli has run out of last chances and may also be on his way out, perhaps back to his native Italy? £27m striker Edin Dzeko has found it hard to break back into the first team despite scoring regularly and Nigel de Jong has suffered as a result of Mancini’s change of tactical formation.
Aleksandar Kolarov has lost his place to the more consistent Gael Clichy and Adam Johnson has never enjoyed a long run in the first team. Given that these six players cost in excess of £120m to bring to the club the Italian would be hoping to accrue at least half that figure from their sales so that he pump that money straight back into his transfer fund pot.
