Villa Park boss set for the sack less than a year after taking over at the Midlands club.
ALEX McLEISH is facing a fight to hang on to his job.
Owner Randy Lerner is plotting an Aston Villa overhaul this summer, placing boss McLeish right in the firing line.
The American wants to bring in a sporting director and is now considering appointing a new manager to work underneath him.
Starsport understands Lerner has already begun drawing up a list of potential Villa bosses.

Whilst Alex McLeish has not had the best of first seasons at Villa Park it does seem that it might be a tad early to be talking of axing the Scot. The former Birmingham City boss had a mountain to climb in terms of winning the support of the club’s fans, it doesn’t help when you have arrived from a rival club, but if you take into account that he had lost the services of three key players it would be odd if Randy Lerner was already looking to replace his boss.
Brad Friedel, Ashley Young and Stewart Downing all left in the summer and McLeish didn’t receive a great deal in the way of funds to replace those players effectively and has had to rely on using a number of the club’s younger players in order to add strength in depth to a squad that is not all that big.
Aston Villa should avoid the drop and whilst Randy Lerner may be rightly thinking of conducting an overhaul it may be too early to include McLeish in his clearing-out process.
