Old Trafford side set to complete double signing.
According to Portuguese source Record Man United are ready to use Brazilian international as part of a deal that would see Benfica pair Axel Witsel and Nicolas Gaitan move to Old Trafford. The report states that the 24 year old midfielder will be offered to the Lisbon club on a permanent basis but first the former Porto man would have to reduce his wage demands.
There has already been a great deal of speculation that Argentine playmaker Gaitan was seemingly on his way to the Premier League table toppers in a deal that would have seen two Man United players move in the opposite direction as well as a fee in the region of £20m being paid by Sir Alex Ferguson’s club.
One of those players is said to be young Brazilian Fabio, who would join Benfica on a loan deal and as part of a combined deal that would include a combined cash sum and Anderson apparently leaving for Portugal on a permanent basis.
Axel Witsel has had an excellent first season a the Estadio da Luz with the 23 year old former Standard Liege man impressing in a box to box midfield role where the powerfully built Belgian international has combined the duties of a attack minded performer with the steel of a defensively able fulcrum.
Sir Alex Ferguon’s Man United side lack steel in their midfield and Witsel can provide that whilst Gaitan would be brought in to add creativity and a goal threat that the Scot currently lacks in his armoury as the likes of Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, Anderson and Tom Cleverley do not offer much in the way of end product, be it goals or assists.
