The 21-year-old has enjoyed his best season to date at on loan at Serie A side Lecce, attracting interest from many top European clubs. Reports from Italy have confirmed that Arsenal and Manchester United are amongst the clubs fighting for his signature.
Parent club Udinese looked set to sell the Colombian forward, who was initially expected to leave at the end of the season for a fee of around £8million, but are now believed to be keen on keeping him.
Speaking to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the player’s agent said: ‘In normal circumstances he will wear the shirt of Udinese next season.
‘There are many rumours about English and Italian clubs but I have not had formal contact with any club.
‘I think he needs to mature a year and his immediate future should be the Udinese although the club will have the last word.’
Strong, fast and with a impressive dribbling ability, he has been likened to Real Madrid star Ronaldo and appears to have the physical profile necessary for competing in England.
AC Milan, Juventus, Roma and Napoli have also shown interest, but Udinese are likely to demand at least £8million for a player who cost them just £1.25m less than two years ago. Former club Deportivo Cali still own 30 per cent of his rights.
Muriel has scored seven goals in 19 appearances for Lecce this term.
