The ex-Chelsea director of football admits that Dirk Kuyt could be just the man to turn Hamburg’s fortunes around….
Hamburg director Frank Arnesen has admitted that the Bundesliga side are interested in luring Dirk Kuyt away from Liverpool at the end of the season.
The Liverpool player has struggled to secure regular first-team action under Kenny Dalglish and may feel that this summer could be the right time to move on and apply his trade elsewhere.
Hamburg director Frank Arnesen is no stranger to Kuyt, having watched him play on numerous occasions during his time as director of football for Tottenham and Chelsea. Arnesen believes that Kuyt is just the player his Hamburg side are looking for:
“I like Kuyt, who is still in good shape, can add something to any team. He is a real team-player with an excellent attitude,” Arnesen was quoted as saying by Bild.
Nevertheless, the attacker’s agent Rob Jansen has made it clear that there have not been any talks about a summer move just yet.
“There have not been any talks with Arnesen or with someone else from HSV. Would Kuyt be interested in a move to the Bundesliga? I can’t say anything about that. A lot of clubs have made enquiries, but there’s nothing concrete for now.”
The 31-year-old moved to Anfiled from Dutch side Feyenoord in 2006, after scoring 71 goals in 101 appearances for the club.
His contract with Liverpool is set to expire next season and Kenny Dalglish may feel that now’s a good time to sell the player if they are to avoid him leaving on a free transfer next year.
