The Tottenham boss has hit out over reports linking the Welshman to Spanish giants Barcelona…
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has rubbished rumoures suggesting Barcelona are set to launch a bid for star player Gareth Bale this summer.
Following Barcelona’s defeat to Chelsea in midweek, defender Dani Alves admitted that Bale would be a welcome arrival at the Camp Nou, having emerged as one of the hottest young properties in world football over the past couple of seasons.
However, Redknapp insists the Welshman is happy at White Hart Lane.
“No one has been in touch with us,” Redknapp said. “He is happy here with us at the moment. He is a fantastic player. He will be linked with every club because he is such a great player.”
When asked whether he thought Alves’ comments constituted tapping up, Redknapp replied: “I haven’t seen what he said.
“I would like Lionel Messi. I will have a chat with the chairman about Lionel. I will see if he fancies coming to Tottenham!”
Spurs are in danger of missing out on Champions League football next season, following dissappointing displays of late which has seen them take just six points from their last 10 Premier League.
The club’s poor form has led to speculation that Bale may be open to a move should he miss out on parading his talents on the biggest stage next season.
The Welshman has scored 21 goals in 108 appearances for Tottenham since his 2007 arrival.
